About Richmond Racquet League:

Richmond Racquet League (RRL) is one of the oldest recreational tennis leagues in the Greater Richmond area. We have more than 350 men/women players competing in match play during our seasons today.

RRL is on a mission to promote tennis. Our leagues are fun and full of competition and help players to stay engaged with our tennis community, be active and stay healthy. As one of RVA’s oldest tennis leagues, we take pride in organizing and conducting open leagues between various clubs and communities around Richmond during the springtime of each year (April to June). The goal is for all different levels of tennis players to be able to participate, promote and play seriously fun tennis! RRL player rating is based on the NTRP rating system and the divisions are designed so that you will play with and against players of similar abilities. Our spring league is one of the biggest and is open to all ages, men or women.

Guru’s personal snippet:

I started playing in it during the 2007-08 time frame when I moved to Richmond and was thrilled to meet and get to play with all types of talented tennis players. The league helped me get involved in tennis as a sport and as a fun hobby. I recall Jim Wood (ex-commissioner of the league) mentioned to me that the league dates back to the late 1970’s and early 80’s having 120+ teams participate each spring and had over 1500 players participate. I have been playing in this league for over a decade now, thoroughly enjoying it each year and witnessing its positive impact on my tennis game! I was given an opportunity to serve as the commissioner of the league in 2015, transitioning from Jim Wood. I am humbled, thrilled and excited to contribute, support and help grow the game I love and finally promote tennis in Richmond. We are excited that the 2021 RRL Spring League is in full swing and players are able safely get back into the game of tennis after COVID-19 setbacks. With 15 teams and 330+ players playing in three divisions (National/Cavalier/Ram) we are glad to be back on courts!

(The playoffs and finals for the season are targeted for June 19th and 25th, 2021 this year.)
